3D, 3D Modeling, Autocad, Command3D Modeling 10: FILLET in 3D
AutoCAD 2007 and higher versions
The easiest command in 3D solid modeling is FILLET command. It is so easy that, in practice, it is much more easier than rounding in 2D. Now, let’s have a look at an example.

Fig.1
Select the solid entity that you can see in the figure from one of its edges where you want to make rounding .
Command: f
FILLET
Current settings: Mode = TRIM, Radius = 0.0
Select first object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]:
Select first object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]:
Enter fillet radius: 3
Select an edge or [Chain/Radius]:
As soon as you select a 3D solid entity, AutoCAD perceives this immediately and prompts you to enter a radius and select the edges. First, the edge that you have selected at the beginning (1) must still be selected. Then, select the edges (2) and (3) along the edge that you would like to round. As soon as you press enter, you will notice that the rounding has been made along the edges that you have selected (Fig. 2).

Fig.2
This simple operation also has an option: ‘Chain’. If the edges that you would like to select are making up a plane and are following each other, then you can use ‘Chain’ option to select all.

Fig.3
As I told you, it is even easier than 2D FILLET.

Dear Sir,
In a 3D fillet, if, for example, considering the above figure having the sides with different angles (say front and back have some angle and left and right have some different angle – but not straight), how can we make the top edge of the object filleted?

I can not see the figure you meant.

Dear Sir,
Consider a rectangular box having 4 faces. Of the 4 faces, the left and right faces were at an angle of 9 degrees whereas the front and back are at an angle of 37 degrees. So the rectangle on the top side of the box will look smaller than the bottom one. Now, I want to round off the top edges of the box and the 4 edges of the box as well without making any change on the bottom. Kindly advice me how to proceed with the above condition.

Today’s other topic is the “Delete Fillet”. Simply use the “Delete Faces” button (or SOLIDEDIT>FACE>DELETE) then pick on the edges that make your fillet. The fillet (or chamfer if you prefer) will be deleted.

Dear Sir:
Do you know how i can remove a fillet operation?
Example : a box 100×100x100 mm, i apply the fillet to the all edges (12 total) and now i want to remove the fillet from only one edge.
Is that possible?

Sorry.
When i say the above post…
I wish the edit posibilty of the original poliline.
The box of 100×100x100, is a extrude from an rectangle of 100×100 (poliline)
When i made a fillet to all edge with fillet command, i can modify later , the original dimension of the poline. For example a 200×200 (the box transform 200×200x100) How? well, i modify the original poliline from your vertex (grips), the fillet command made to the solid, remain this opcion, but when i delete the faces from a fillet corner, the grip opcion dissapear.

Just want to ask, how can I make a fillet in the junction area, say, in this example, the junction in between the tube and the oval type base plate, make it more realistic same as welding pattern.

Dear Sir,
Just solve it, by union the parts and then fillet.

We have realatively simple mechanical parts with fillets and rounds. Why do the fillets and rounds disappear whether in layout or model space. We have recently updated our AutoCAD 2009 and we think this started AFTER that update was installed.

dear sir,
i have need to pipeline drawing,so i am used to tools
1) polyline ,that line some bending is there, because i am used to fillet commad with some radius, it can be well, after that darw a circle , any one of the corner of the pline, then i have used sweep toos, did’t activate,
but i have used to another system , it can good to work , so what is the problem in that tools, please clarify this problem
thankyou sir

Sir,
if i subtract object1 from object2 then we get object3
with desired edge profile. now i want to give a fillet weld along the edge profile with a particular radius.

Roberta Butler, we have same problem, why does autocad 2009 after filleting a 3d object, and we have a large file of many fillets, …..save, close program, re-open…fine…..open again, save as another file name like adding a 1, no changes, – re-open, fillets gone!!! permanently gone. ……although, seems to work fine and does not delete fillets if save file as 2004 file
. quit changing autocad Autodesk! it worked fine the way it was!
