Autocad, Command, Hints & Tips, ModifyALIGN command in 2D
AutoCAD 12 and higher versions
When I was making a furnishing work with an architect, Serkan who is a professional in his discipline in AutoCAD asked me to do this: “-Can you align the red edge of the triangle in the figure to the red edge of the square.”

Fig.1 “Draw it if you can!”
I did everything, I moved it, erased it … but somehow I couldn’t do it.

Fig.2
Indeed, I was one of those who don’t know ALIGN command. I know it now
and I would like the others learn this command too. Let’s select all of the edges of triangle and enter “al” or “ALIGN” into the command line and then select the upper left corner of the triangle and the lower left corner of the square right after that:

Fig.3
After that, select the lower left corner and lower right corner of the square and make a right click:

Fig.4
Scale objects based on alignment points? (AutoCAD prompts if it shall change the entity that is selected into the same scale with the entity to be aligned to?)
Let’s answer this question as “yes” and let’s see what will happen:

Fig.5
As you can see, as a result, the red edge of the triangle is aligned to the red edge of square and the dimensions became smaller proportionally. If we have answered the question as “No”, then the corners would have connected without any changes in dimensions:

Fig.6
You can also use the same command in your 3 dimensional drawings. Erhan had an article regarding this subject.
Good bye and have a nice day.

This tutorial would b great except the instructions are wrong. You wont get alignment with these instructions. 1) select all sides of triangle
2) type align
3)select the upper left corner of the triangle and the lower left corner of the square than select lower right corner of triangle and than select lower right corner of square.
4) right click; scale y or n
Now there is alignment.
My advice leave the tutorials to Serkan. lol
