AutoCAd 2007 and higher versions

Those who use AutoCAD and its RENDER properties often might have noticed that in 2007 version, commands for LANDSCAPE objects have been removed. Even if this looks like a big loss, there are other methods to reach to these features. In Landscape Objects article that is written by Eren Pala, general principles are being explained. I suggest you to read that article first. In our example, we will make a kitchen faucet as shown in Fig. 1.

Fig.1
Fig. 1 batdif.jpg

We will name this picture as ‘diffuse map’ and we named it as “batdif.jpg“. Faucet picture might have a full background, i.e. you might have scanned it from a magazine or so. At this point, what you should take care of is that from which angle we are looking at the faucet. Because on the contrary to the previous versions, there is no angle adjustment like it was for AutoCAD landscape entities. We will solve this problem by adjusting the angle of the surface that will be covered according to the angle of our scene.

Fig. 2 batopa.jpg

In Fig. 2, you can see masking picture that is named as ‘opacity image’. Pixel sizes for this image should be the same as other image. We named this file as “batopa.jpg“. The main property of opacity image is that there are only two colors used. While rendering, block areas are fully permeable, and white areas will be fully transparent. In other words, you have to make the areas that you want to see in diffuse map, white in opacity image and those areas that you don’t want to see in diffuse image, black in opacity image. Our pictures are ready now. We can start preparing the materials. Let’s open the material palette by using MAT command and define a new material named as BATARYA.

Fig. 3

We have to change ‘Template’ property to ‘Advanced’ as shown in Fig. 3. We will give “batdif.jpg” file as ‘Diffuse map’. Let’s adjust the properties of the picture as shown in Fig. 4.

Fig. 4

Let’s mark up ‘Fit to object’ and change U/V = 1.0, and exit this screen and do the same for ‘Opacity’ picture. As our material is ready, now we can assign it to a surface. At the end of rendering, we will obtain a result as shown in Fig. 5. I have also added another surface to be able to understand the result 3 dimensionally. I also selected the view angle according to the picture. If you look from the other direction, we can rotate the surface 90 or 180 degrees.

I have read your post about AutoCAD 2007 and landscape objects. I am looking for the same subject or articles (objects ind landscape) about AutoCAD 2008 or/and AutoCAD Architecture 2008. I think about it and how the “little” differences represent some problems for work on it.

Hello, I am a student at Niagara College’s Construction Engineering Technology - Architecture program. We have an integrated laptop program (of course AutoCAD 2006 is on them). Since the college re-imaged our laptops over the summer holidays, we have been having an issue with the landscape features in 3D.
When we go to add…say….a tree……and we click preview to see what the tree looks like……we dont see anything. As well……it will add the tree to our drawing, and we can see the wireframe triangle with the name of the tree, but after a render, we cannot see anything there at all. Our Professor is trying to find a solution to this problem and he thinks it may be conflicting with the Architectural Desktop that we also have on the laptops. COULD ANYONE HELP? please email me at lfitzgerald_916@hotmail.com
