Hi dear bloggers,
Today we are going to learn how to draw a 3D chain in Autocad. Let me mention first, we will draw the chain in 3D instead of drawing in 2D and moving it. The chain photo in the figure is added to the drawing by Raster-Image command.

Figure-1 A 3D Chain
Open a new drawing and switch to isometric view by clicking View>3D Views>SW option. Draw the chain link in the Figure 2.

Figure-2 Drawing the chain link
Make the link POLYLINE after eliminating dimension and axis lines by turning the axis and dimension lines off in “Layer Control” Window. There are articles about how to make a polyline. You can do it by using PEDIT and BO commands. EXTRUDE the link by 2 units like in the figure 2. After extruding it, copy the link, thus upper and lower faces are formed. For the connection between links; draw a circle with a diameter of 9 units and offset it 15 units ( pink colored ) and move it from its center to the center of the lower link hole.

Figure-3 Extruding the Chain Link and Copy Process
Draw a CIRCLE with 7 units of diameter and extrude it by 1 unit. MOVE it from its center to the center of the upper link. This is of course representative, in case there is a rivet with both sides exploded. I do not need to draw because there is no direct effect for modelling. You can arrange the links in a row by copying them or make a rectangle ARRAY by 3DARRAY command.
Lastly, our chain is ready when you render it (optional).

Figure-4 The Rendered image of the chain
May it be easy.

To anyone.
I need an elliptical sprocket, 3″X 11″. 1/2″ separation at pivot and 5/16 arc for the chain seat. It’s 1/8″ single speed bicycle chain. It’s an extreme ellipse I know but need for my project. No one seems to be able to make one for me .
Thanks Bob
