Dear bloggers!

I have been using Autocad for three years. I started to learn with version 2004. A valuable Computer Aided Technical Drawing Course teacher, which is the assistant of Prof.Dr. Ümit KOCABIÇAK but I can not remember his name, talked about a detail. This detail attracted my attention frequently later and even sometimes I was annoyed about it. This article is about this detail. I am looking forward to waiting your comments.

Let us enter the ‘Layers Properties’ window and change the ‘Linetype’ option of the active layer. Click the ‘Load’ button in the ‘Select Linetype’ menu to load a new linetype. Load any linetype form the menu.

Exiting the menu, you can see that the linetype we selected is not assigned to the layer if we additionally select the one we want after loading it. I wonder why Autodesk do such a thing like that. Please share your comments with me. Although it seems like a small detail, it can cost time and slows down our efficiency.

Have a good day!

I’ve had this same irritation, but here’s my justification for the way AutoCAD does it. In your example, you only added one linetype so I agree, it should be selected. However, even though you only added one linetype, you had the option of adding multiple linetypes or none at all. What would have happened if you added multiple linetypes? Which linetype should be selected when you return to the “Select Linetype” dialog? The first one selected? The first one alphabetically? The first one that is found in the linetype file (if they are not actually in alphabetical order)? What would happen if you selected no linetypes to add?

There are so many options that, from a programming point of view, I think that selecting the same linetype that was previously selected is the most logical option to choose.

    Just my two pennies worth.
