In this article, I will explain the HYPERLINK command, which, I believe, is missing in or related to my previous article FIELDs inside AutoCAD.

In AutoCAD drawings, we can attach network links, which is called HYPERLINKS, to drawing entities. Let me explain the two practical use of this:
1. We can set links from the letterheads, online texts or blocks to the websites that belong to the brand or product that they represent.

2. We can give links to the local area network locations of drawing files that belongs to the block of external drawings ( XREF ) inside the drawing.

In order to see the operation of the command, there has to be at least one entity in the drawing. As you like, you can also prepare simply a block and two text entities inside your drawing as shown in Fig. 1. Now, let’s have a look at how the command works on an entity.

Command : HYPERLINK ( or Insert/Hyperlink.. menu, CTRL+K )

( You can also modify the Hyperlink property from the Properties panel if you want.) After confirming the entities you have selected, ( A100C text Fig. 2, INTEMA text Fig. 3 ), window shown in Fig. 2 will open up.

Fig. 2

In this example, we attached the name of a drawing file in our local area network of our company to the block and INTEMA Kitchen internet web page link to the INTEMA text ( Fig. 3)

After attaching HYPERLINK to the entities, in order to access these links you should left click on them by holding CRTL button (Fig. 1).

    Sir,
I’m using the hyperlink facility in CAD
This concept works on two different dwg files.
But my problem is I want to link the object with another object within the “same drawing file”.
Means if I click the object, the linked object should appeare on my screen (preferably in center of screen) with same zoom level.

Is it possible? If yes can u please elaborate the procedure.

    Hi,
You can use DWF format. Use DWFOUT command to do this.

    Hello Erhan

I work in Autocad 2005 and need to put a hyperlink from an object on my drawing to a .pdf document , and to open this pdf at a given page.

    I tryed out this:

    “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe” “/A” ” page=3=OpenActions” “C:\Documents and Settings\myname\catalogue.pdf”

    but always get an error
“The system cannot find the path specified”

However when I run this line from the Windows Run menu, it works good.

    Sincerely

    Bart

    Erhan,

I am using AutoCAD Map 2007 to create drawings with several hyperlinks in each drawing. Each hyperlink opens a PDF. After attaching the hyperlinks I create a DWF of the drawing and view it in the DWF Viewer version 7.

When I open the hyperlinks from the drawing the PDF opens in Acrobat. When I open the same hyperlinks from the DWF the PDF opens in an Internet Explorer window.

Is there a way to have the PDF open in Acrobat (instead of IE) from the hyperlink in the DWF?

    Thanks,

    Pat

My hyperlinks work great however, I made a print screen & pasted for a visual reference to hyperlink. They can only be viewed from the machine I captured them on. Is there a way to make these thumbnails.dib viewable across my network for co-workers?
