AutoCAD 2007
After AutoCAD™, there have been significant changes in VIEW command. We were already waiting for some of these changes throughout years by saying ‘I wish there was such a feature, this should also be in VIEW command” etc… Some of these changes are a result of necessity that arises from new presentation features that came with AutoCAD. Now, let’s take a look at the very new VIEW command:

Fig. 1
Classic VIEW command that we all knew has evolved into ‘View Manager‘ and now has a very stylish interface
. On the left pane, we can see current view settings, model views, layout views and preset views in a categorized order. In the middle pane, properties of the view that you have selected are listed, so that you can change some of the settings from here. On the right pane, there are buttons related to control commands. In order to save your current view with a new name you can use ‘New…‘ button.

Fig. 2
In order to complete a new view, first we are giving a name to it. This part is same as old version. However, there is a category just below the name, which increases filtering and managing possibilities a lot. You can create categories under the names of ‘Perspective‘ for perspective views or ‘views‘ for frontal views. Just below that, you can specify how much of the screen you would like to view by selecting from ‘Boundary‘ option. Here, you can separately specify a framing window to view a specific part of screen. In Settings part, you can select ‘UCS‘, live section (you can select among objects from which several sections has been prepared) and visual style. Visual style is a new feature came with AutoCAD 2007. Here, you can select among 2D, 3D Hidden, concept ( an advanced version of old shade ), or you can select the active style on the screen. On the lower part, there is the most favorable part in my opinion. You can set a color or place an image to the background. After completing defining a new view, we can go back to view manager by clicking OK button. As soon as we go back, we can see our new created view inside the list in the left side (Fig. 3).

When we select our new view from the list, just on the right side we can access to more detailed settings compared to the previous window. Here, the most important feature is regarding the layer management. If we select ‘Layer snapshot=YES‘ here, then a copy of all of the layers are stored; by this way, as soon as we go back to a view that we keep in any part of our drawing, then layer settings are restored as they were before. This feature is very useful for perspective views. Besides, managing background view is extremely easy here. You can access to relevant setting very quickly ( Fig. 4).

I suggest that you should try other features by yourself and create view settings that most suit you.

It is also worth noting that to make a rendering with a white background in 2007 you need to set the background color to 255,255,255 on a set view.
