Perhaps you know QLEADER command from dimensioning toolbar in AutoCAD. It is some sort of “description arrow”. However, QLEADER command that we use before AutoCAD 2008 is positioning description arrow and the text separately. Description arrow acts according to dimension style settings, whereas description text has the format according to current text style. In order to end this inconsistency, in AutoCAD 2008, MULTILEADER command is used instead of QLEADER command. If you insist on using the old command, don’t worry it still exists. However, due to the fact that subject of our article is MULTILEADER then we will continue with this command.

You can see how a typical description arrow is used. It is very easy to access MULTILEADER command. If you want you can access the command from command line by entering MULTILEADER or MLD as alias. There is a special field allocated for this command in dashboard (Fig. 2).

Due to the fact that all of the other options that is related to this command is gathered in this area, it is much better to use this area in dashboard to access the command. Execution of the command is quite same as the QLEADER command. However, MULTILEADER can be composed of a definite number of segments and its default value is defined as 1 line. Which means that when you define the arrow point and the second point, then you can access the description line. Description text is composed of MTEXT or a BLOCK entity. Of course, there should be one or more number of entities existing inside the block. However, only the MTEXT option will be explained in this article. As soon as you reach the description text, then MTEXT editor appears on screen (Fig. 3).

When the description text is completed, if you press OK button, then the command also becomes completed. After this stage, description text and the arrow line acts as a single drawing entity. Of course, I believe that there is no need to remind experienced AutoCAD users that you can edit the text once more if you double-click on it or clicking on the arrow and edit its location and length by using the small blue squares (GRIP editing in AutoCAD). In the next article about MULTILEADER, we will explain about the topic of MULTILEADER STYLES. Until then, good bye.
