Hello my friends,

When we start a drawing for the first time; most of us open the LAYERs that we frequently use, load linetypes, make settings for drawing limits and units. And sometimes, in order not to do all of these again and again every time, do these operations in an empty drawing and start a new one by making “Save As…” from that drawing.

In AutoCAD, it is possible to save the initial settings as a template and then initialize a new drawing from this template. When we open a new drawinf in AutoCAD, below shown screen comes first.

When we press the third button in this screen, a list of templated that we can use comes up. And the one that is highlighted is our choice of template to be used. This file is loaded automatically as a template everytime you open a new drawing. In our example this is “acadiso.dwt”. If we open “acadiso.dwt” file, make changes in the settings that we want and save it, then every time we open a new drawing, these settings will come up with the new drawing. However, we can create another file named as xxx.dwt and put it in the list seen above. Below, I am listing some of the settings you can change inside acadiso.dwt (or yours):

• LAYER list
• Line types
• Dimension and text style settings
• Unit settings
• Drawing limits
• Letterheads if exist

You can find the DWT files in “C:\Documents and Settings\Orhan\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2006\R16.2\enu\Template\acadiso.dwt” directory.

Have a nice day.
