Dear Friends,
In my former article “Hatching from A to Z“, I wrote about hatching in detail. In this article, I will talk about how to make your hatches fit perfectly into your drawings.

Fig.1
You should be certain that there is no scale set for ‘Annotation Objects’ in your drawing. Erhan has given detailed information about this subject.
Let’s say you are hatching a wall that has an area of 300cm x 270cm (cm chosen as unit of drawing. Please see “Understanding scale concept and units in Autocad” article for unit acceptance), and you want this wall to be made of 19×9×5 (front elevation 19×5) bricks. Fig. 1

Fig.2
Run the BHATCH command. The dialog box in Fig.2 will appear. Firstly select ‘Brick’ as your hatch style (1). then specify the boundary you want to hatch (2). To make sure the bricks start off from the lower right corner (Fİg. 1), use ‘Hatch Origin’ (3).
At this stage, complete the hatch, and measure the length of a single brick (Fig.1). Ours was 12.7, and now we have a little calculation to do to make this 19.
Hatch Scale = The length you want/ The length in your drawing
Hatch Scale = 19/12.7 = 1.496063
To be able to measure on the drawing, you may have to ‘explode’ the hatch. Quickly UNDO after the measurement and erase the hatch. Now run the hatch command once more and type the value we just calculated as ‘hatch scale’ (4). All remaining steps are the same.
You will now see that all is well once you finish hatching…

Why not just select the hatch and go to propeties and change the scale there? Don’t need to redo the hatch command at all. That will save time.
