Hip tip: Multiple EXTEND and TRIM by using FENCE option.

AutoCAD 2000 and higher versions
We may sometimes work on with multiple lines when using TRIM and EXTEND commands in Autocad. A fast method exists for this situation which is using the FENCE option for both commands. Let us see how it is possible by extending the lines in Figure 1 as a whole to the red line.

Command: _EXTEND
Current settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=None
Select boundary edges …
Select objects or <select all>: 1 found (Red line is marked)
Select objects:
Select object to extend or shift-select to trim or
[Fence/Crossing/Project/Edge/Undo]: f (FENCE option is selected)
Specify first fence point: (Fence is drawn by passing all lines)
Specify next fence point or [Undo]:
Specify next fence point or [Undo]:
Select object to extend or shift-select to trim or
[Fence/Crossing/Project/Edge/Undo]:

You can see all of the lines are extended when you draw a fence and press enter.
Let us now, use TRIM command with FENCE option.

Current settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=None
Select cutting edges …
Select objects or <select all>: (Select all by pressing enter)
Select object to trim or shift-select to extend or
[Fence/Crossing/Project/Edge/eRase/Undo]: f
Specify first fence point:
Specify next fence point or [Undo]:
Specify next fence point or [Undo]:
Select object to trim or shift-select to extend or
[Fence/Crossing/Project/Edge/eRase/Undo]:
During TRIM command, if you respond the option
Select cutting edges …
Select objects or <select all>:
by pressing ENTER, all objects seen in the area are selected as the trimming and cutting objects. This is a clue. The rest of it can be worked out by FENCE.

Here’s an OLD SCHOOL trick. Instead of using TRIM or EXTEND, try using the CHANGE command. Enter the command CHANGE, select the endpoints of the objects to Extend or Trim (with a window crossing or fence), turn your Ortho ON, and then select the point where you want the endpoints of the objects to go. Now, just for fun, try turning the Ortho OFF and see what happens!
