AutoCAD 12 and higher versions

As you know an ellipse is a curved drawing entity that has two different axis with two different lengths. There are some certain terminology that should be known while drawings and ellipse. These are defined by axis end point and two points on one axis. Thus, these two points can be considered as the radius of the ellipse. Angle of this axis defines the angle of ellipse at the same time. After selecting the end point No. 1 of ellipse by using the cursor, you can select the point No.2 or enter any polar coordinates and complete the ellips.

After defining the first axis by using the two point, AutoCAD will prompt for the other end point, which determines only the half of the second axis. Distance defines the distance between the second axis with respect to center of arc or mid-point of first axis.

Rotation defines the proportion of small axis of ellipse to the larger axis by rotating the circle around the first axis. The more the value is, the larger the proportion of small axis is to the larger axis. This value is in between the interval 0 and 89.4 degrees. If it is 0, then we obtain a circle.

Center is drawn as the center of ellipse by giving the half length of the two axis.

Arc, enables you to draw an elliptic arc which is defined by two axis. Before defining the axes that define the ellipse, we are entering Arc sub-command in order to draw an arc. Then, we are creating the arc by using the above mentioned methods. At this stage, what we should do is to enter the starting and end points of the arc by using either the cursor or entering angles.

You may not obtain the result that your wish as the first attempt. However, you should be able to draw an elliptic arc after a few mode attempts, believe me… If you try to explode the ellipse entities that you created, then you will notice that it does not work. In case you would like to explode them, then you will have to change the PELLIPSE parameter as 1.

Finally, I would like to remind you that if you explode an ellipse, then there will be 16 number of arcs created. Or, in other words, we can say that “an ellipse is made up of 16 number of arcs”. Anyway, that’s all for this article.
