Autocad, CommandCommand: _EXTEND
AutoCAD 12 and higher versions
Hi to all,
I have not been writing for a long time since I have lots of work to do. During this time, we have some new friends (Autocad users sharing their experience). ‘Welcome’ to all those new comers. Let me continue to add something new into the ‘Command’ section.
Today, I am going to mention how we are going to lengthen our lines using EXTEND command. Extend command lets us lengthen a line to another or any boundary object. We can utilize the command for LINE, POLYLINE or ARC objects.

Command: _extend
> Current settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=None
> Select boundary edges …
> Select objects or <select all>: 1 found
Upon entering the command, the object(s) to which we are going to extend (boundary edges) is/are selected and confirmed.
> Select object to extend or shift-select to trim or [Fence /Crossing /Project /Edge /Undo]:
After that, the object(s) (LINE, POLYLINE, ARC etc.) which we is/are going to lengthen is/are clicked.

The selected line is extended without a change in its angle.

Try same processes with an arc.

If you are going to choose multiple objects to extend, ‘Crossing Window’ or ‘Fence’ option can be used instead of clicking them one by one.

Fig.6 You can enter the right click menu to use the fence option
If none is selected for the boundary edges, the whole objects in the drawing will be considered to be selected and the extension sides of the objects will be requested. This means that, each clicked object will be extended to the first possible boundary object and every further click extends it again to the next boundary object.
Edge option, the sub-menu of the command, is about the boundary object’s extensions are considered or not. There are two options.
No Extend: The extensions are not considered.
Extend: The extensions are considered.

An important Tip: You can do a swift passing between TRIM and EXTEND commands. TRIM command will be applied if the selection is made by the SHIFT key in the EXTEND command and vice versa.
That’s all for now. May it be easy to all.
