FILLET command in 2D

AutoCAD 12 and higher versions

This command combines drawings entities ( line, arc, polyline, circle etc. ) from the points that there is a possibility for these entities to connect and creates a corner. Entities that are used for FILLET can either be lengthened or shortened. When using the command, we should select the entities from their sides where we want them to remain on the screen. Their parts which are out of the selected side will be cut from their connection or intersection points.
 

We can use the command by using both Modify menu or by entering “F” from keyboard.

If we enter “0” (zero) for the “Radius” value, then a dull connection is created. A dull connection is a connection where a sharp corner is formed. If you enter a value for “Radius” option in Fillet command, then an arc is used for the connection of entities. If you enter a radius value for the fillet command, then this value is kept and used as default for each time you run the command.

If you are going to combine entities that were drawn by using POLYLINE command, then for using the same radius at the all of the corners, you can do this at once by using the POLYLINE option.

When FILLET command is used, drawings entities that are longer from the intersection point and that have a possibility to connect, then they are shortened. Similarly, they get lengthened if they are short. In order to use this feature, you can use TRIM option when you enter FILLET command. If you don’t want this feature, then you must use NO TRIM option. By this way, you can avoid losing original entities.

Next question is how FILLET works with parallel lines. Probably the most interesting surprise of FILLET command arises here. As you know, there is no possibility for the parallel lines to connect, i.e. it is assumed that they don’t intersect even at infinity. If you use FILLET command on parallel lines, then distance between these lines will be accepted as the radius and the two lines will be connected with an arc. No matter what the default Radius value is in the FILLET command, this does not change the result.

Rectangle – Fillet (Rectangle, corners of which is rounded)

Fillet option inside Rectangle command makes the corners of rectangle rounded according to the radius value given. When rectangle command is entered, you can access to fillet sub-command by entering “F” keyword. After entering a valid radius value here, then you select the other corner of the rectangle. Then drawing of rectangle is completed.

    I just wanna try to answer. Murat, correct me if I’m wrong. The purpose of multiple fillet command is to rounds the edges of more than one set of objects. The Select First Object and the Select Second Object will prompt repeatedly until you press ENTER to end the command. That means you can continuously make fillet with different radius (if you change the radius) in single command.

  7. I am trying to use the fillet command to fillet a 470×470 square with a 3 fillet. Instead of being a curved edge, it makes an edge with 3 sides that does not look curved at all. If I make a really huge square and a very time fillet, it looks just like a chamfer and has only one line. How can I make the fillet look like a fillet no matter what the size of the object is?
