As Taliasoft team, we have been developing applications that work integrated wtih AutoCAD for 16 years. Since the foundation of our company, we created applications for some of the biggest companies in Turkey, like ABB, AEG, Mercedes Benz Türk, Eczacıbaşı Bath Kitchen Ltd., Mood Ltd. We published many publications in various magazines regarding AutoCAD™ applications. And today, we are sharing our knowledge with you through this platform. And from time to time, we are presenting some small applications to you in this web page. We call some of the applications as programs that are AutoLISP, or .NET, or ObjectARX based applications. Even now, I can hear you saying ‘I wonder which one of the programming languages is more suitable for me?‘. In this article, I will try to explain and clarify more details about this subject.

AutoCAD 2007 and hihger versions

Glove compartments are very handy in our cars even if we have noticed it or not. Especially if you are sharing your car with your wife, imagine what kind of things you may have in it. Indeed, the most important advantage of glove compartment is that you can access small items that you use very frequently at a distance of grasp of your hand. In a similar manner to this, DASHBOARD feature that came together with AutoCAD 2007 is providing such a functionality. Even though DASHBOARD is more or less some kind of a TOOLPALETTE, it has some particular differences. Controls on it are slightly different. Besides, you cannot add tabs to DASHBOARD. You cannot customize DASHBOARD in AutoCAD 2007, but since AutoCAD 2008 it is customizable now. However, usage of DASHBOARD is mainly based on control panels rather than tabs. Now, let’s start learning by taking a look at how DASHBOARD looks first (Fig. 1).

We have to learn about the MULTILEADER styles if we want the arrow line, and description text of the created MULTILEADERs to be as we want them to be. For this reason, before explaining about how to create a description bubble instead of a description text, first I will explain about MULTILEADER styles.

AutoCAD 2007 and higher versions

SWEEP command, which is one of the new features that came with AutoCAD 2007, can be considered as an advanced version of EXTRUDE command. Both EXTRUDE and SWEEP commands are used for creating a 3D solid by dragging a profile along a path.

The main difference between the two commands is that in SWEEP command, you can automatically make the profile perpendicular to path; you can scale the profile along the path and rotate it. On the other hand, “taper angle” option of EXTRUDE command does not exist in SWEEP command.

Perhaps you know QLEADER command from dimensioning toolbar in AutoCAD. It is some sort of “description arrow”. However, QLEADER command that we use before AutoCAD 2008 is positioning description arrow and the text separately. Description arrow acts according to dimension style settings, whereas description text has the format according to current text style. In order to end this inconsistency, in AutoCAD 2008, MULTILEADER command is used instead of QLEADER command. If you insist on using the old command, don’t worry it still exists. However, due to the fact that subject of our article is MULTILEADER then we will continue with this command.

AutoCAd 2007 and higher versions

EXTRUDE command is one of the command that I like to use when modeling 3D solids. Just like I use to do in my previous articles, I will not only explain about the command but give you two examples for you to practice how to use the command. Previously, our friend Özgür already wrote an article about this command. I suggest you to read his Command:_EXTRUDE article.

Command profiles that you can access through toolbar or DASHBOARD can help you to create a path or a solid model by extruding by a certain height. Let’s see the most primitive way of using the command. Read the rest of this entry »
