AutoCAD 2008 and higher versions
We have mentioned that the most important component of render materials is the texture, and we have explained this concept in the fourth article of our series. As you know, when we select the mapping type as ‘Texture Map’, we can select the texture picture our self. We already learned about this subject. In this stage, we will learn about the controls that is necessary to scale and tile the texture on surfaces that are rendered by using this material texture. When you press the small button that is just beside the picture selection button, ( Click for texture map settings ) ‘ Scaling & tiling ‘ and ‘ Offset & preview ‘ section opens up (Fig. 1). Indeed, this section is only about the sub-channel picture. Same settings can be made for the general of the material. However, in this article, we will deal only with the ‘ Diffuse map ‘ channel.

Scaling & Tiling : In this section, it is determined how the material texture is scaled and tiled over the surfaces. By using ‘ Scale Units ’, you can assign constant scales or by using ‘ Fit to Gizmo ‘ texture is tiled all along the surface. Whole tiling means that whole surface is completely covered with the texture picture. You can access the details of the concept in the article Creating Render Material in AutoCAD - 2. Number of repetitions in U and V directions can also be determined in this part. Together with AutoCAD 2008, ‘ Mirror ‘ option is also added to the tiling methods. By using this option, all of the parts are tiled as a mirror of the previous one. It is quite useful when making parquets.
Offset & Preview : In this section, there is a preview that shows how the texture look like over the surface. When ‘ Auto-regen ’ is selected, then all of the changes that are made are instantaneously reflected over the preview picture. Other vise, you have to press ‘ Update ‘ button to see the changes. ‘ Preview size ‘ enables you to zoom the preview picture. By using ‘ U Offset ‘ and ‘ V Offset ‘ values, you can determine how much away from the corners in X and Y directions, texture will start to be tiled. This property will be very helpful for you while you are aligning the bathroom tiles. And, by using ‘ Rotation ‘ value, you can determine how much your picture will be rotated.
To return back from this window, you must press any of the buttons that are shown in Fig. 2.

When you return back to the main window (Fig. 3), you will notice that ‘ Material Scaling & Tiling ‘ and ‘ Material Offset & Preview ‘ sections look very similar to the controls that we explained about in this article. Even though they look similar, their functions are different.

Fig.3
If you pay attention to the section headers, you will notice that all the changes that are made in the main window will affect the whole of the material and makes all the changes that we make for the texture obsolete. AutoCAD will already give you a warning about this subject.
See you in the next article and have a nice day.
