AutoCAD 2008 and higher versions
Here we are continuing to define textures in our material definition tool palette. In my previous article, we learned how to use our own texture picture and how to make settings separately for each channel. And in this article, we will learn how to use our own texture templates.

Fig.1
As usual, we are going to work at ‘ diffuse map ‘ channel. As you know, this channel is the main texture of the material. When you open mapping type list, then you will see that there are several preset texture templates. These templates come together with AutoCAD installation and they have special settings ready. When these templates are used instead of the normal material, then you can make settings in the relevant channel only. Thus, all the settings that you can make can be the ones that are specific to that template only. In order to enter setting, you must select the button that is on the bottom right side of the template list. You already know this from our previous articles. Let’s have a look at the settings window:

Fig.2
As you can see, there are two color settings ( stone color, vein color ) and two width settings ( vein spacing, vein width ). These are settings that are specific only to marble. If you select wood among the preset texture templates, then you will get different settings that is related to wood only (Fig. 3).

Fig.3
However, there is no way that you can get the look of these material when you use these templates. Here is an example that was made by using templates and another one that is created by using texture pictures neat it.

By looking at the results, you can easily understand that you can obtain a better result by using a texture picture that you prepared. See you in the next article.
You can see the relevant articles in render section.
