Let us talk about the safety of Windows Live Messenger™ today. In every forum we can see an article about users that had their passwords been stolen. You can make your account safe in only five minutes if your account is important to you, if you have been using this account for years and if you have given this address for membership to all web-sites.
How?
Even though most messenger users are familiar with this subject which seems like an easy point but still most users are unaware of these little but handy details. Some measures you are going to take before something happens to your account may make things easier when you are in trouble.
1) Firstly, we have to go to the ‘settings’ menu of our acount and organize our registration information. I am pretty sure that most people’s settings are left as the first random registration entry.
2) Update your registration information completely and correctly once again.
3) Update your Name/Surname, Date of Birth, Country/City, Address, Occupation, Industry, Postal Code, Safety Question and its Answer, Secondary Address (very important to fill this) etc. and print them all out and file somewhere to use them in any further problems that may occur.
4) I want to mention several points else. Especially during instant messaging, you may arrive some rubbish links anonymously or by someone you know. Be careful about this kind of stuff. Never click any links sent by someone off-line. Unfortunately your computer may be infected easily and you may encounter non-sense stuff if you click those links and your anti-virus software is defective. I clicked the link to test and happily my Bit Defender software blocked the virus and prevents the infection. You may not be as lucky as me because some programmes may not block the virus. Thus, it is useful to be careful.
5) Another point is to back-up your messenger contact list for safety. You can export instant message contact list to a file and also copy your registration information that you have edit before to a word file and burn both of them into a disc.
6) Lastly, let me mention a useful add-on. We can be protected by a small add-on to your Firefox or Internet Explorer. The name of the add-on isMcAfee’s Site Advisor. It is very useful indeed. Especially for the fake sites designed to steal your passwords. It establishes the sites like this and other ones including harmful contents.This add-on must be used.
